Modern Warfare 3: Killstreak Intel Leaked!

Those SAS lads never seem to get tired of running around in the game

Kotaku has just scooped a major intelligence leak.

While no Bothans died to deliver us this information, the game blog did manage to pull one over Activision. The leak shines light on the multiplayer perks under development in Activision’s top-secret labs under the Santa Monica desert.

According to Kotaku, the game has some new multiplayer perks in store for avid gamers, among them: Assassin, Point Guard, Blind Eye, Recon and Dead Silence. We aren’t sure how they are achieved, but the names do hint at some of the achievements needed to unlock them (such a knife kill).

In addition, the game reportedly includes a new Team Perk system, which are only achievable through cooperation with allied players. While the rewards system itself remains a mystery, Kotaku managed to glean some of perks, which reportedly include: Stopping Power, Blast Shield, Health Regen, and Stun Protection.

Finally, there is everyone’s favorite: killstreaks. Supposedly, gifted frag masters will be able to take advantage of the following goodies of death:

EMP Grenade: Temporarily knocks out all electronic systems in the blast radius

Littlebird: A remote-controlled helicopter with some punch. NOT the AH-6 Littlebird used by the military.

Precision Airstrike: A delayed airstrike that wipes out everything in a given radius.

Stealth bomber: A more powerful version of the airstrike, this one calls in a B2 to carpet-bomb everything in a straight line indicated by the player.

Remote Turret: A remote-controlled: not sure if it has unlimited ammo or not.

Directional UAV: Launches an unmanned aerial vehicle along a defined direction, to scan for hostiles.

Remote Mortar: Calls in an off-map mortar team to rain steel hell on a defined location.

Airdrop Trap: We’re not sure what the trap looks like, but the military doesn’t use C130s just to drop mousetraps

Ammo Resupply: An airdropped crate of ammo. Just make sure it lands on your lines, not the enemy’s

Escort Airdrop: An airdrop protected by air superiority fighters. In a pinch, those expensive F16s can also be used as portable-missile fodder

Kotaku warns that none of these perks have been confirmed for final release, which means they’re still in the development or beta stage. In addition, Activision itself is seeking to downplay the holes in its security. Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling even took the time to take a potshot at the leak, saying, “Lots of false Modern Warfare 3 info being reported” over Twitter.

Whatever the case, we can’t wait to give these new perks a try, and see just what that Airdrop Trap is all about. Maybe a whoopee cushion on parachutes?

Call of Duty: Paying to “Kill”

WTF

“Seven million daily players of the game who spend, on average, about seven full days a year playing the game against others online.” This was what Jamie Berger, Activision’s Vice President said regarding the video game Call of Duty.

No doubt about it, Call of Duty is the most popular FPS and TPS video game series franchise. It began on the PC and expanded to game consoles and handhelds. The primary setting of the video game is World War II, with the exception of Black Ops set in the Cold War and Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3, which is set in the modern times.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the third installment in the hugely successful franchise. According to the CEO of Activision Publishing, Eric Hirshberg: “Modern Warfare 3 is by far the most epic Call of Duty experience yet. The game will raise the bar for this incredible franchise from the innovative gameplay, to the cinematic intensity, to the most advanced multiplayer ever.”

With the release of the newest entry in the Call of Duty franchise, rumors were also swirling that the game’s manufacturer is considering imposing fees. The FPS game will be the first of its kind to implement a firm but optional monthly subscription fee. The game box will include items, maps, and other exclusive additions.

Activision, the manufacturer of the highly popular COD franchise, stated that it ” plans to charge a monthly subscription fee for the service, which will provide extra content that isn’t offered on game discs sold in stores, including downloadable map packs that give players new Call of Duty levels to play.”

The rumor that was released is not as rumor after all because we just found out that the Call of Duty Elite is a paid platform for the upcoming Modern Warfare3! What a buzz kill – pun intended for the gamers. Activision is planning to unveil the Call of Duty Elite officially within this week. The fee for the Call of Duty Elite will be around $4.99/month for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Am I hearing some FF or about to launch RPGs now?

But, wait! Before I hear some more WTFs, there are some additional features aside from the exclusive maps and items. Gamers of COD Elite will be able to check out detailed statistics of their performances and will also allow to arrange matches using a built-in messaging tool from Facebook.

As a gamer, are you willing to say pay the subscription fee just to play to kill? Or are you saying BB to the fees? Lastly, are you willing to be the TK and launch a GG hike against COD’s manufacturers?
